How My World Got Rocked… Again!
Today, I got my world rocked… again!
Now for most of you, this may seem like something small, but for me it’s a huge step into a new direction. While walking back to my dorm-room after class today, I met this elderly homeless lady. She asked me as I was passing by, “Do you have any spare change for the homeless?”. Now mind you, I am in the middle of reading Seth Godin’s new book – Tribes – as I was walking and I come across this section of the book where he says, “Heretics are the new leaders. The ones who challenge the status quo, who get out in front of their tribes, who create movement.”
My first response to her was that I didn’t have any money on me, but I realized that I had a $5 bill in my bag. So I turned around and I said to myself, you know what… I’m gonna do something different.
So I sat down and we started chatting. She unveiled how she became homeless and that she was trying to get into the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter for the night. We both agreed that we knew what it was like to be broke and trying to figure out how to make it in this stupid world. She was such a cool person. I needed that.
The reason why my world was rocked is because I am beyond sick and tired of being this anticipating Christian with desires to do something; to be a heretic; to be a change agent, but too afraid to move.
It’s like Linkin Park… “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?”
After attending the Catalyst Conference 2008 this past Thursday and Friday, I refuse to go back to life as usual. This conference has forever changed my life…
I’m writing my to-do list and my to-don’t list [Jim Collins], I’m living a life of moral authority [Andy Stanley], I’m working with what I got [Steve Furtick], I’m shaking it up baby [Brenda McNeil], I’m rallying up my tribe [Seth Godin], I’m begging God to ruin me with “It” [Craig Groeschel], I’m starting with a ripple that will – in time – become a tsunami [Tim Sanders], I’m annihilating the 5 enemies of unity in my life [Dave Ramsey], I’m having my life spent on the Gospel of Christ [Franklin Graham], I’m creating and cultivating community [Andy Crouch], I’m guarding my life and my doctrine closely [Matt Chandler], I’m reaching people no one else is reaching by doing things no one else is doing [Craig Groeschel], and I’m breaking the rules [Andy Stanley].
