365 Opportunities to Do Good: Join the DoGood Movement!

What if you and me and a whole bunch of other people all over the world could join together every 24 hours to inject GOODNESS back into this world? What if we could join forces through technology and the web, and collectively make a difference? Whether big or small; complex or simple; public or private?

Welcome to the DoGood Movement!

I came across this iPhone application designed by a three college kids from the University of Michigan, who converged on the idea of leveraging technology to create a social experiment that would harvest good deeds as well as bring people together from all over the world. The iPhone app features a daily “DoGood Challenge” that can be found on the home page of the app. Once completed, a user clicks “Done” and is added to the list of “Doers” around the world who have also completed the challenge. The app also features the ability to share your completed challenge through Facebook, Twitter, or Email. Users can also check stats on how many users are currently joining the DoGood Movement, as well as scroll through old DoGood Challenges. One unique aspect of the DoGood app is the ability to read and post stories of submitted by people who have completed the challenge.

What I like most about it is that I get to take part in a global movement by doing small things one day at a time. It’s that feeling of making some sort of difference that compels and inspires people to do MORE. Since June 2009, the number of “Doers” has grown from 1,000 to 240,000+. That’s just within 6 months!

The only drawback is that this experiment is limited to iPhone users. My guess is that at some point, this app will be opened up into a full-fledged online social network for those who don’t have the iPhone. But for those who do, I invite you to JOIN THE MOVEMENT.
