140 or Less: DREAM!

A lack of meditation leads to a life of memory. Meditation challenges the mind and provokes imagination. DREAM! 117

140 or Less

Vincent Hunt, for all who may not know, is indeed responsible for speaking volumes in my life since I was in middle school. His spiritual wisdom and creative insight is beyond remarkable. Recently, he dropped something on me that has been loud in my ears for the past few weeks. It’s a little something he would call…

One Forty or Less

If you are a Twitterholic, then you know where I’m about to go with this. The idea is that “anything of relevance can be said in 140 characters or less”. Anything!

I’ve been wrecking my brain with this and I think the greatest discovery is that many of us shape our lives, our ideas, and our beliefs around great minds who spoke in 140’s. From Gandhi to Aristotle to Solomon to Jesus, these legends have helped us understand life and purpose at a deeper and simpler level.

Take the book of Proverbs… profound truths written by Solomon in 140 characters or less. Can you imagine the quality of life for a man or woman who meditates and lives by the truths of those who spoke in 140 or less?

So…

In response to my Vincent launching yet another buzz-worthy way to spark conversation and to simplify the clutter that we call life, I have decided to do a few 140’s myself. Maybe you can join in and add to the conversation. Anything from quotes to scriptures to old sayings – even your own – are acceptable… but the only requirement is that they must be 140 or less.

Let’s Party!

My good friend – Daniel Gilland – got me fired up this past Tuesday during our weekly Together Tuesdays. He told me about a video where a pastor talks about how he threw a party for a prostitute at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii. I said to myself, now that’s my kind of pastor! I got so fired up, I ran home and watched the video clip myself!

Here’s my conclusion:

Not only do I want to be a part of the church that throws parties for prostitutes, I wanna be the type of follower if Christ who lives life on the fringes, totally entrusted to God; where throwing parties for prostitutes is considered outrageous at all, but more like something Jesus would do anyway.

Watch the actual video of the message…

Teams…

Craig Groeschel did a few posts on Teams and I promise you, it totally rocked my life-structure (lol).

Here’s a snippet of that awesome post…

I don’t like committees. Big groups of people rarely make the best decisions and often slow things down.

When I talk about leading as a team, I am NOT talking about ministry by committees.

On any good team, there is a head coach. Someone must be in charge. But if the coach is wise, he’ll build a team of coaches.

In any ministry, I suggest the following:

  • One leader who is ultimately responsible for the direction of the ministry.
  • Three to seven people who become some sort of a leadership team. (Two is not enough. Three drastically improves the dynamics. More than seven becomes bulky. For some reason, I like odd numbers.) This could be an advisory team, executive team, leadership team, directional team, or whatever suits your purposes.
  • When possible, the people on the team should be a diversified group.
  • Each person has an equal voice—but the leader reserves the right to make the final call. (On our team, it has been years since I have overridden the wisdom of the team. I still reserve the right at any time to make the hard call.)

How does this relate to your organization? How can this insight better develop the type of team-culture need to take your organization to the next level?
